A safe place for women and children
Meminar Ngangg Gimba is a program response to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and their children who are dealing with or escaping family violence in the Mallee.
An initiative of the Department of Human Services, Meminar Ngangg Gimba (Women Who Dwell Here) is based on the collective work of statewide Regional Action Groups and the development of the Indigenous Family Violence 10-year plan, Strong Culture, Strong Peoples, Strong Families.
The first phase of the Meminar Ngangg Gimba response was launched last year, with Haven endorsed as an interim provider of case management services by the Indigenous Family Violence Regional Action Group. These case management services are being delivered from Haven's Mildura office.
The second phase involves the construction of a cluster housing complex to provide short-stay accommodation for up to six women and their children within a low security environment.
When construction is completed later this year, the current case management services will be relocated to the cluster house where staff will be available 24/7.
