Is Affordable Housing the same as Transitional Housing?
LMHS caters for its client group by offering or assisting with emergency accommodation. Affordable Housing however is different. AH aims to provide Affordable, long lease housing to low/moderate income families by offering successful applicants a discount off the market rent of its properties. Applicants must meet specific criteria to be eligible for AH. This information can be found on the AHA Website.
Is Affordable Housing the same as Public Housing?
No.
If I am a single person, can I apply for Affordable Housing?
Currently, LMHS Affordable Housing Association has an exemption for housing singles. This could change in the future as more properties are made available.
Would I be eligible if I am a single parent only receiving Centrelink benefits?
Single parents who have a child/children in their care and are only receiving Centrelink benefits are able to apply for Affordable Housing. All other eligibility criteria will need to be met in relation to the application.
If I am working full time but am on a low income am I still eligible?
If you meet the eligibility criteria for Affordable Housing, you may submit an application.
Would I be eligible for Affordable Housing if I am only receiving Centrelink benefits?
LMHS Affordable Housing Assocation is designed to assist low to moderate income families to obtain affordable housing. Your income details are assessed along with other eligibility criteria and if it is determined that rent payable on a particular property is no higher than 30% of your household income then you would be eligible.
For the purpose of assessing my income, Is an ‘Income Statement’ the same as my ‘rate of payment’ or ‘Your Family Assistance’ form from Centrelink?
No. An ‘Income Statement’ is the required document necessary to assess this part of your household income. Please contact Centrelink to obtain this form.
Can I use a family member or friend as a rental referee?
No. Rental referees must be either from a Real Estate Agency or a private Landlord. If you have rented a property through your family or a relative, you must obtain 2 character references in their place. The character references must not be from family member or friends. You must be able to provide at least 12 months of good rental history to be considered for AH.
When will I get a house?
LMHS Affordable Housing receive many applications and whilst LMHS are building/buying properties to assist families, unfortunately there is not always going to be housing available for everyone. Once your application is processed, you will be advised of the outcome by letter.
Where am I on the waiting list?
LMHS do not have a waiting list for Affordable Housing and only keep accepted applications on file for a period of 12 months, so if you have not been offered a property within 12 months of your initial application and you are still requiring Affordable Housing, please re-submit a new application form which can be found on our Affordable Housing website.
